- The shower. The session starts with a warm shower. Gel does not spread on cold or dry skin, so this is preparation rather than politeness.
- Warming the gel. The gel is brought to body temperature while you shower.
- The mat. Nuru happens on a waterproof mat, not on a bed. The mat exists so the gel can be rinsed down afterwards — a bed cannot be.
- The massage. Long body-to-body strokes down the back and legs, then front. The pressure is broad and the movement is continuous. The sensation people describe most often is floating rather than being pressed on.

How to spot a real nuru massage from a fake one
This is the part worth reading before you book anywhere. - Ask whether the room has its own shower. Gel has to be rinsed off properly. A shop with a shared bathroom down the corridor has not thought the treatment through.

Why nuru costs more
Three reasons, and they are all mechanical rather than commercial. The gel is imported and a session uses a lot of it. The mat has to be set up and stripped down for each guest. And the rinse afterwards takes longer than washing off oil. None of that is optional if the treatment is being done properly, which is why a shop offering nuru at the same price as oil is worth a second look.
What should be included
Before you go up, anywhere in Bangkok, confirm that the quoted number already covers the room, that there is no service charge coming at the end, and that no membership fee applies on a first visit. How long should you book?
