Nuru massage in Bangkok is on the menu at 8 Fantasy, 22 Sukhumvit Soi 8, a two-minute walk from BTS Nana, Exit 2. Nuru is the slipperiest of the body-to-body styles and needs the most preparation, so every session runs in a private en-suite room with its own bathtub and shower. Open daily 11:00 until 02:00.

Nuru massage steps at 8 FANTASY Bangkok: seaweed gel warmed to body temperature, a waterproof nuru mat, and a full-body glide
How a nuru massage works at 8 FANTASY, Sukhumvit Soi 8.

What nuru massage is

Nuru began in Japan and takes its name from the Japanese word for slippery. What makes it different from every other massage is the gel. Nuru gel is made from nori seaweed extract — it is colourless, odourless, tasteless and completely water-soluble, and it is far more slippery than oil or soap while staying thick enough not to run off.

Because the gel removes almost all friction, the therapist can work with the full length of the body rather than with hands alone. The strokes are long and continuous down the back and legs, and the sensation is closer to floating than to being pressed on. It is a relaxation massage, not a deep-tissue or therapeutic one.

How a nuru session works

  1. Shower first. Gel does not spread well on cold or dry skin, so the session starts with a warm shower.
  2. Warming the gel. The gel is brought to body temperature before it goes on. Cold gel is unpleasant and most of the difference between a good nuru session and a bad one is here.
  3. The mat. Nuru is done on a waterproof mat rather than on a bed, because the gel needs a surface that can be rinsed down afterwards.
  4. The massage. Long body-to-body strokes, face down first, then face up.
  5. The rinse. The gel washes off with warm water alone. Fresh towels and amenities are laid out for every guest.

Sessions run 60 or 90 minutes. We recommend 90 for nuru: the warming and the rinse both take real time, and a 60-minute booking leaves less of it for the massage.

The rooms

Nuru, soapy and B2B — how they differ

Style Medium Where it happens
Nuru Odourless nuru gel On a mat
Soapy massage Warm soap lather Bath and air mattress
B2B massage Warm massage oil On the bed

Nuru is the most slippery and the longest of the three. Soapy is warmer and more traditional to Bangkok. B2B is the simplest and the only one we can bring to a hotel.

Is the gel safe

Nuru gel is a seaweed extract in water. It is odourless, leaves no residue, and rinses off with plain warm water — no soap needed. If you have a shellfish or seaweed allergy, tell reception and we will do an oil-based B2B massage instead.

First time

Nuru is the style first-time visitors ask about most, usually because they have read about it rather than tried it. If you are unsure, say so at reception. The gel takes a few minutes to get used to and there is no obligation to book the longest session on a first visit; plenty of guests start with oil or soapy and come back for nuru later.

Price and hours

Nuru massage starts at 2,000 THB. Session lengths and the rest of the menu are on the price list. Open daily 11:00 – 02:00, seven days a week including public holidays.

Booking

Nuru needs the mat set up, so it is worth calling ahead if you want a particular time. Call or message +66 82 836 1625. English is spoken at reception. Nuru cannot be done as an outcall — if you would rather stay at your hotel, see outcall massage.

Frequently asked questions

What does nuru massage mean?

Nuru is a body-to-body massage using an odourless, colourless seaweed gel. The gel is warmed to body temperature and makes skin-to-skin contact completely frictionless, which is what separates it from an oil massage.

How much is a nuru massage in Bangkok?

At 8 Fantasy nuru starts at 2,000 THB for 40 minutes with one therapist. Choosing nuru over soapy or body to body does not change the price — only the length and the number of therapists do.

Is nuru gel safe on skin?

The gel we use is odourless and washes off completely in the shower. Every session ends with a private shower in your own en-suite room.

What is the difference between nuru and soapy massage?

Nuru uses warmed seaweed gel on a waterproof mat and involves no bath. Soapy uses a thick soap lather and starts with a filled bathtub. Both are body to body.

Where can I get a nuru massage near BTS Nana?

8 Fantasy is at 22 Sukhumvit 8, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110 — two minutes on foot from BTS Nana, Exit 2, open daily 11:00 until 02:00.
